Muslims hold Uraza Bairam festival Sunday MOSCOW, November 14 (Itar-Tass) - On Sunday, Muslims hold one of the main festivals of Islam, Uraza Bairam (also known as the Lesser Bairam) or Id al-Fitr in Arabic (Festival of Breaking Fast), at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. A prayer service is to be officiated by Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, Chairman of the Council of the Muftis of Russia, in the cathedral mosque here on Sunday morning. The service is to be broadcast live on the television channel Russia. Mufti Gainutdin has told Itar-Tass that about 20 million Muslims reside in Russia, and 7,000 mosques and prayer houses function in this country. More than 20 mosques began to function in this country over the past year alone. These include new mosques in the town of Zvenigorod outside Moscow, in Pervouralsk, Noyabrsk, Astrakhan, Rostov on Don, Magnitogorsk, and Tyumen.
